表紙は葛飾北斎「富嶽三十六景 下目黒」です
下目黒とは、現在の目黒区周辺の地域を指します。
当時この一帯は田んぼや畑が広がる農村地帯で、将軍が鷹を使って狩りを行う「御鷹場（おたかば）」としても知られていました。
画面中央の道端で話をしている二人の男性は鷹匠で、差し出した手には鷹が止まっています。
畑では、農民たちが鷹匠の話に耳を傾けながら作業をしていたり、鍬を担いで畑へ向かう様子が描かれています。農家の母子の姿も見ることができます。
ゆるやかにうねる丘の合間から、富士山が控えめに顔をのぞかせています。
Shimomeguro refers to the area surrounding present-day Meguro Ward.
At that time, this region was a rural area spread with rice paddies and fields, also known as the “Otakaba” where the shogun hunted using falcons.
The two men conversing by the roadside in the center of the painting are falconers, with hawks perched on their outstretched hands.
In the fields, farmers are depicted working while listening to the falconers' conversation, or heading to the fields carrying hoes. A mother and child from a farming household can also be seen.
Between the gently undulating hills, Mount Fuji modestly peeks out.
