表紙は葛飾北斎「富嶽三十六景 五百らかん寺さざゐどう」です
深川の五百羅漢寺（現在の江東区大島三丁目）にあった三階からの眺めを描いたものです。
この建物は、らせん階段があることから「さざゑ堂」と呼ばれ、その眺望の良さで知られていました。
人々の視線や手の動き、床板の木目、屋根の傾きなど、画面のさまざまな要素がすべて西洋の遠近法における消失点としての富士山へと収束しており、いかにも北斎らしい構成が見て取れます。
画面左端の老人が持つ風呂敷には、永寿堂の家紋である山形巴（やまがたともえ）の紋が描かれています。
初摺りの版には、左下に改印（極印）と版元印（永寿堂）が押されています。
また、ぼかしで表現された川面には版木の木目がはっきりと現れており、子どもの着物の模様の描き方や墨の濃淡の違いなどにも、版の違いが見て取れます。
This depicts the view from the third floor of the Five Hundred Arhats Temple in Fukagawa (present-day Oshima 3-chome, Koto Ward).
The building, known as the “Sazae-do” due to its spiral staircase, was famous for its excellent vantage point.
Various elements within the composition—people's gazes and hand movements, the wood grain of the floorboards, the slope of the roof—all converge toward Mount Fuji, functioning as the vanishing point in Western perspective. This distinctly Hokusai-like composition is readily apparent.
The furoshiki held by the elderly man at the far left of the image bears the Yamagata Tomoe crest, the family crest of Eijudo.
The first-printing block bears the publisher's seal (Eijudo) and the printer's seal (Gokuin) in the lower left corner.
Furthermore, the grain of the woodblock is clearly visible in the blurred river surface. Differences in the block can also be discerned in the rendering of the child's kimono pattern and the variations in the ink's density.
